Aquapalooza 2010!

Written By Unknown on Sunday, July 11, 2010 | 10:34 AM

It's summertime, and that means fun on the lake!! Austin just wrapped up the Aquapalooza 2010 weekend on Lake Travis. Aquapalooza is a series of on-water celebrations held during the last two weekends in July at more than 100 locations around the world. Sea Ray Boats created the event in 2006. Each Aquapalooza locale features great music entertainment. Austin was fortunate to have Brad Paisley as the main event.
The concert stage was oriented facing out to the lake, and boaters or people on floats watched the entertainment from the water. Austin was so fortunate to host it this year. The whole week we had alot of rain, but by the time the event started, the land was dry and the skies were beautiful. The event started Friday night with a VIP Party at The Reserve. Friday's party was a blast with different bands and an amazing laser light show by Laser Spectacles, Inc.
All the staff at the Reserve did a wonderful job of creating a memorable night. The food was provided by the Trading Post and it was yummy & appropo for a Texas starry night.
The Reserve was the host land spot for Aquapalooza and it was the picture perfect point . You can read more about The Reserve in one of my older posts. (scroll way down the page and you'll see more info about The Reserve)

Also, with any pictures, you can always click on them to enlarge the photos!

Saturday bands starting playing at noon, following with Brad Paisley from 5-7 pm. Paisley gave a stellar performance and everyone had a great time.
Picture doesn't really show well....but the stage jutted out over the water, with a "sea" of people on floats below it. The line of boats started just beyond the end of this platform. Wish I had an aerial view to show you how many rows of boats were lined up. Very cool , and very organized. The actual Aquapalooza website has more photos.

For safety reasons, the concert ended at 7, so that most boaters could taxi off the lake before sunset. Lake officials had the entire event so well planned and we were amazed at the incredible organization. We had alot of Austin friends say they didn't want to go because they thought it would be way too wild and congested. (we ended up with two extra wristbands because of negative comments of people not wanting to attend!) The crowds actually look crazy in previous photos, but in person all the traffic was very manageable and the boat officials had the lake traffic running very smoothly. I would definitely attend future concert lake events on Lake Travis because it was fun & managed so well. For Lake Travis' initial Aquapalooza, they mastered a huge event beautifully! Also the land part of The Reserve at Lake Travis for Saturday, had an amazing set up with great security and a beautiful setting.
Only members or guests of The Reserve could use the Cypress Lodge pavilion, and sit under the beautiful oak trees and watch the concert. All other concert access was only via the lake.

I picked up the local Aquapalooza Survival Guide for the event and it featured everything you needed to know about the weekend and boating.
One of the advertisements from Yacht Outfitters caught my eye because it's for boat interiors.
Lake Travis has so many fun coves and areas to dock for the night. Alot of avid boaters spend their entire weekends on their boats here.
Yacht Outfitters carries a line of fine Egyptian cotton sheets for those overnighters & will also custom make mattress pads. Clever Austinites came up with this company because they realized the niche for better boat interior accessories.
They also carry some nice pillow sets that are made of durable indoor/outdoor fabric.

Or you can purchase a white cotton tablecloth specifically made for boats that has an elastic base for securing, even in heavy winds.
Do you know of other boat interior decor lines? If so, please leave a comment and share. Or send me your fave photos of boats/boat interiors or accessories. I'd love to hear from you!

Remember you can always read tons more design stuff by scrolling waaaayyy down this page and look for "older posts"......click on the phrase "older posts" for previous articles on my design projects or other projects/designers that inspire my own work!

Have a great week and hope you find some time this summer to go boating!

All the best,
