Patterson Project, Part One

I'm thrilled to finally share the finished  pictures from the Patterson Project.  We started the Patterson house in  the Fall of 2011 and the home was complete around March, 2013.   I wrote a few previous blog posts about this residential build over the last couple of years.   Today's blog post features their Entry,   Living/Dining area and the Powder Bathroom.    I'll be sharing the rest of the interiors over the coming week, as well as the exterior areas.



 The Patterson home was  architecturally designed & built with exceptional quality by some of Austin's finest*.

Look at this gorgeous ceiling, truly  a work of art:

 In the Living Room, although there's a TV in there, ,my client's weren't concerned with it being the "hang out/tv watching room".  The TV here would basically function as the one to watch when a game would be on, say during the holidays or a party event.  The family would watch their family tv shows in the gameroom, away from the main living areas.  Therefore, we didn't want to hog the space with a large sectional or family size furniture.  We wanted this area to be the sit/chat "lounge" area and feel more open and not cluttered.  Alot of times people see an empty room ,large in scale like this open one, and think they can jam a bunch of furniture into it.  When they don't work with a Decorator, they usually end up returning or editing furniture pieces because they don't realize how the space shrinks once the movers drop off that large scale furniture!  You don't realize until you map it out on a blueprint, just how furniture truly lays out. 

Don't you just love their beautiful hand scraped rustic floors and the hand hewn beams:

 The home features so many interesting details. One is this cowhide rug intricately cut & created to make this very cool pattern:

 
Custom seagrass rug banded in navy:

You can barely see them in this photo, but I had simple white canvas Roman shades custom made with a navy and aqua banding to pull some navy into the Entry/Gallery areas.   The pillows on the benches of this area also pull more navy into the room.

On one side of the Entry/Gallery area is one bench:

and on the other side , a matching bench, with a great mix of Texas rustic and modern throw pillows :

Down the Entry Hall, is the sliding  barn door leading into the Powder Bath:

   My clients were so great to work with and we had alot of fun collaborating on their home.  We spent many hours either out in the stores, scouring  Round Top/Marburger,  or online hunting  places like Joss & Main, Etsy, or  One Kings Lane ,   filling each corner of this fabulous home.     Actually, the only furniture my client's brought from their previous home was  an outdoor dining table with chairs,  and a wine colored leather chair for the Study.  
The  active,young  family wanted a fresh, modern look that wasn't over the top fancy,  or out of budget.    Yet still was a comfortable, elegant  home for entertaining friends & family, and  had to be kid friendly.
