Apple Picking in Atlanta

Written By Unknown on Saturday, October 3, 2009 | 3:41 PM

I woke up this morning, looked at my backyard with all the green leaves and really missed seeing the fall colors because being outside in October always made me smile. You know winter is coming but when you see the landscape come alive with orange, brown, red it never fails to let you know how insignificant you are in the face of nature.

Having moved from NY to Atlanta two years ago I was shocked to find out that fall only meant raking up leaves. I thought Atlanta had all four seasons... Ha the joke was on me. I mean if I have to rake up leaves for nearly 2 months (all my neighbors leaves end up in my yard) then why I can't get some eye candy for all the aggravation.

Since I couldn't really experience Fall as I knew it, I figured the closest I'm going to get feeling like fall was to go apple picking.
I've been taking the kids apple picking since they were babies so at least that would one tradition we can continue in Georgia. After a quick search on the Internet, the kids and I took a drive up to Ellijay the apple picking Mecca of North Georgia.

The drive was around 1 hr but it was missing the fall colors. (I know I'm beating a dead horse but I'm really missing the fall foliage.)

We went to Hillcrest Orchards in Ellijay, you do have to pay an admission price of $5.00 per person but they have go carts, live entertainment, wagon rides that's included in the price.

I was very excited to see that they had numerous species of apples.

Doesn’t the Golden Delicious look delicious? Trust me it tastes as good as it looks.

The Rome apples were also really good looking and delicious.

Of course the piece de resistance was the HOT apple cider donuts. It really made us happy to see them since apparently fried apple pies are all the rage GA and apple cider donuts aren’t readily available at the apple farms.

Although I still miss the fall foliage spending the day with my kid’s apple picking made us all nostalgic and of course the tradition continues.
